Book of the Month
This September we offer two tales of survival for young teens: Island of the Blue Dophins, by Scott O’Dell, and Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen. In one, a Native American girl finds herself alone on the island her people have abandoned, learning to survive without her family or clan. In the other, an American boy accustomed to the good life is stranded in the wilderness with nothing but a hatchet. Both are gripping adventures of a young person facing the elements alone. Think Robinson Crusoe for teens!
